On Monday morning at 10am, Youna will collect all the assignments on a hard drive. Please be prepared to copy your assignment to Youna's hard drive. Any assignments that are not ready will be considered late.
In class we will watch all the portrait-interview assignments on the big screen.
4. Here are items we discussed in class:
- A-Roll is the main interview, the main interview can be made of several shots, close-ups on the subject etc.
- Be sure to use the shotgun microphone of the lavalier (small mic) for recording the interview. The sound is VERY important
- B-Roll shots are the cutaway or supporting shots. As an example, if you are interviewing a cook, the cutaway shots would show the chef cooking and preparing food.
- Do NOT use any copyrighted or downloaded music for this assignment.
- Use cuts only editing
- Titles are unnecessary for this assignment, such as a title for the assignment etc.
- Length should be one to two minute. Two minutes is the maximum duration.
- Try to make the editing engaging, do not repeat shots and clean up bad edits and sound issues. Please see the example assignment that has been posted.
- As we discussed in class, you may want to build up the scene, beginning with the outside of the place and then developing the details.
- Avoid continuous talking, look for sound "bites", short segments of the interview. Try to see what is the core of the interview, think about what the person saying. It's ok to edit things out. It is a good idea to have parts of the edit where there is no talking to kind of give a "rest" and to emphasize other aspects of the scene.
