Shooting for sequence
Create a
one-minute to two-minute sequence that describes a place or location.
Please
see the examples from the previous submissions.
Your
assignment should capture the character or essence of a place. Choose a
location such a subway station, a coffee shop or a restaurant, a market, or the
city. Take a variety video shots of the place. Use close-ups, details as well
as medium shots and wide shots. Edit these together to create the final
assignment.
Think of
the sensory implications of the location. Consider the sounds and characterize
the place. What are the compelling visual cues that help to define the place.
Begin to
conceptualize your work in different levels of understanding. Shots of a
crowded bus can mean different things, over population, transportation, the
drudgery of commuting or the success of a developing country. Restaurants can
imply commercial or social status. The way people walk can imply religion or
business types.
There are many ways images can be interpreted. Consider
also the artistic and poetic side of shooting and capturing scenes.
Do not
use any copyrighted or outside music.
Do not
use any filters or special effects.
Use only
straight ahead cuts.
When
filming think of how the shots will be put together to make a whole. How will
the shots be edited?
Edit your
final work.
Bring
your edit in the timeline with Final Cut Pro and we will show you how to export
it in class.
We
will have class time to fine tune your edits before the final export.
With
your 6 shots exercise - assemble them into one project timeline and save for
export.
Please
be sure to update your Final Cut Pro software to version 10.1.2. Contact TA Youna
Kim for any questions about updating.
On Monday,
in addition to new editing techniques, we will demonstrate how to export
these files.
